The MidSouth Aquatic Plant Management
Society (MSAPMS) is a non-profit organization of scientists, educators, students, resource managers, administrators, and concerned individuals interested in the management and study of aquatic plants in the MidSouth region. Membership reflects a diversity of federal, state, and local agencies; universities and colleges; corporations; and small businesses. MSAPMS is a chapter of the national Aquatic Plant Management Society. The MidSouth Aquatic Plant Management Society had its beginnings in May 1979, when a group of representatives from various federal, state, and private organizations within Alabama met at Auburn University, Auburn, AL to discuss common weed problems and potential solutions. The Aquatic Plant Management Society, Inc. agreed to sponsor the formation of a chapter named The MidSouth Aquatic Plant Management Society and an organizational meeting was held at Auburn University, Montgomery, AL in February 1982. David Bayne was elected the Society's first President. The first annual meeting of The MidSouth Aquatic Plant Management Society was held in October 1982, at Lake Guntersville State Park, AL. MSAPMS White Paper on NPDES Issues The MidSouth Aqauatic Plant Management Society is requesting assistance from those in the MidSouth region in developing a “white paper” detailing the economic impacts a general permit system will have on aquatic applicators and aquatic resource managers throughout the MidSouth region. This would include additional costs that companies or programs would incur to become compliant with a permiting system. Please read the letter from the link below and consider how the list of questions would affect your business or aquatic plant management program, and send responses to the MSAPMS President Jason Carlee. A Call to Action Letter 2010 MSAPMS Student Scholarships The Society's Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to graduate students pursuing careers related to the aquatic plant management profession. The MSAPMS is now seeking applications for the 2010 graduate student scholarship to be awarded at the 2010 annual meeting. One scholarship of $2,000 will be awarded to a qualified student applicant. Applications must be received on or before June 1, 2010. Click here for more scholarship information. |
